In the grand scheme of things, when approaching a new project, we believe understanding the outcome before a shovel hits the ground is the most important step. Our clients sometimes spend years contemplating, researching and dreaming about their new homes or renovations. We are frequently greeted with a thick portfolio of napkin sketches, clippings and sample plans. After over 50 years as a hands-on carpenter / builder…I’m always impressed with their significant investment in time, their intelligence and awareness of the building process.
When meeting the clients for our Towaco, NJ Timber Frame addition…it was clear that the overall vision for this interesting half octagon, two story expansion of the Master Suite with a library and state of the art laundry center on the first floor was very well formed. It was also obvious that the owners were totally invested in the concepts of sustainability and energy efficiency. The existing structure is enclosed with SIP panels, and the homes mechanical systems are a blend of high efficiency, geo-thermal exchange and external wood burning furnace. While the site provides the fire wood above ground…it also provides the kick start of a geo-thermal constant from below. Most extraordinary is that this home was built over 10 years ago…before the Green Frenzy.
The interior design and furnishing’s, including the clever use of an entertainment center as a Murphy Bed come from the highly creative mind of the owner. One would never expect that the beautifully molded facade, mounted with a large HDTV is also a full sized bed in disguise . Watch the above album/video. Feel free to share it with family and friends.
